A federal agency is investigating President Donald Trump’s longtime teleprompter operator, Gabriel Perez, for potential insider trading, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is looking into trades Perez made on the prediction site Kalshi, which were flagged for possible insider activity.
Investigation Details
The trades in question were on ‘mention markets,’ where users can bet on which words and phrases public figures, including Trump, will say at speeches and events. Kalshi referred its findings to the CFTC, and Perez has cooperated with the investigation. The CFTC has pledged to crack down on insider trading, including if it comes from the White House.
Perez is one of the highest-paid members of White House staff, with a salary of $175,000. He has worked with Trump for over a decade and is often the last person to see the president’s speeches before he delivers them.
