Vice President JD Vance warned during a Wednesday interview that if Republicans don’t fix the economic missteps of recent decades, young people will elect a socialist president. He noted that the rise of democratic socialists in politics is a result of failed bipartisan leadership, which has created a society where socialism is on the rise.
Economic Missteps
Vance suggested that conservatives should try to understand why young people are drawn to socialism, citing the U.S. experiment with low-wage foreigners, offshoring, and outsourcing, which has led to a weaker middle class. He argued that the economic crisis of today cannot be blamed solely on the previous Democratic administration, but rather on 40 years of bad policy.
Vance recalled a conversation with friends that underscored the problem, where an engineer revealed he couldn’t afford a home in a safe area, and another friend said his childhood neighborhood was now out of reach even for Marine officers. He warned that unless young Americans are allowed to own something, socialism is the inevitable outcome.
Vance also argued that democratic socialists play into the hands of big business when they push for open borders, as corporations care more about open borders than any other policy. He emphasized the importance of restricting immigration to protect workers’ negotiating power and prevent the destruction of the middle class.
