The Del Mar Fairgrounds has a new CEO, Rebecca “Becky” Bartling, who previously worked at the fairgrounds from 1994 to 2015. She was appointed to the role after the previous CEO, Carlene Moore, was fired.
Bartling’s Plans for the Fairgrounds
Bartling has stated that she is happy to be back at the fairgrounds and is focused on helping the staff through the transition period. She has a strategy for fostering morale and trust among staff, which includes not micromanaging and allowing employees to excel in their positions.
Bartling also emphasized the importance of being a good neighbor to the surrounding cities, including Del Mar and Solana Beach. She believes in working collaboratively with the cities and has developed a good relationship with the city managers.
Master Site Plan and Future Initiatives
The fairgrounds is moving forward with a master site plan effort, called Fairgrounds 2050, which aims to shape the future of the property. Bartling is also working on bringing back a trained volunteer group, the “First 50”, which helped with horse and large animal evacuations during emergencies.
Bartling sees her time at the fairgrounds as a period of stabilization and hopes to implement long-term initiatives. She wants to provide the staff with the ability to grow in their positions and is looking forward to working on unique events and opportunities for participation at the fairgrounds.
