Trump to Address Defense Summit

President Donald Trump is set to address a defense summit at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he will discuss major investments in battlefield technology. The war in Iran has reduced the U.S. supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles and Patriot and THAAD interceptors.

Defense Summit Attendees

The gathering, organized by Republican Sen. David McCormick, features key leaders in defense and global investors, including JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon, Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg. The summit aims to spotlight the importance of national security and identify investment opportunities.

Trump has been a frequent visitor to Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, and has sought to boost Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie’s reelection chances. The president carried Pennsylvania in 2016 and 2024, but Republicans are concerned about the war and high cost of living as they look to maintain control of Congress in the midterm elections.

ZeroEyes, a multi-analytics threat detection leader based in Conshohocken, announced a planned $10 million investment in artificial intelligence and machine learning research and development. Pittsburgh-based Gecko Robotics also plans to open a new manufacturing facility to boost integration of robotics into defense manufacturing processes.

National Security Concerns

An analysis found that U.S. military contractors will need at least three years to replenish stockpiles of Tomahawks, Patriots, and THAAD interceptors. The dwindling stocks have raised concerns about American forces’ firepower in potential future conflicts with China. Trump has sought to correct the shortfall by seeking a historic $1.5 trillion defense budget proposal for 2027.
