A 22-year-old construction worker, Edwin Valdez, was struck and killed by a police vehicle at a highway work zone in Mesquite. Valdez died after the crash on June 23 while working at a construction site along Interstate 635.
Family Seeks Answers
His partner, Jazmin Torres, said the couple had been planning for the future and preparing to welcome their child. The loss has changed the course of their family’s future, and Torres wants accountability and is asking questions about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Mesquite police said the investigation remains ongoing and that investigators do not anticipate criminal charges. The police vehicle was working traffic control for the construction company when it struck Valdez while the officer was moving to set up for the next road closure.
