Several Greater Cincinnati organizations are partnering to help bring adaptive arts and music to local children. The hope is that it will give everyone the chance to learn how to play music.
Cincinnati Adaptive Arts and Music Camp
The Cincinnati Adaptive Arts and Music Camp is being hosted by May We Help, a local nonprofit that provides custom engineered solutions for children and individuals living with disabilities, and the Adaptive Art and Music Project. The camp will allow individuals with physical disabilities to explore their creativity and participate in either a music track or visual arts.
According to Deb and Saya Amin from the program, the purpose of the camp is to demystify the process of teaching the arts in a way that everybody can learn how to express themselves through the arts. Saya, who is a pottery instructor, explained that it’s essential for everyone to have access to this creativity, especially for people with disabilities who often face barriers to participating in the arts.
Greg Waddell, the executive director of May We Help, mentioned that the organization has received great support from volunteers, donors, and grantors, including a major grant from Art Waves. He encouraged viewers to learn more about the camp and how they can get involved by visiting the May We Help website.
May We Help is also in the process of moving its headquarters and is planning to announce a new location soon. The organization has received over 6,000 requests for help since 2021 and needs additional space to expand its workshop and conduct programs like the adaptive art music camp.
