An SUV crashed into a swimming pool at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Vermont on Monday, injuring at least two children. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the SUV drove through a fence and landed in the pool, hitting children who were swimming.
A 9-year-old boy, Joseph Sage, was among those injured. He said the SUV’s tire trapped him underwater, and he suffered scratches on his head and finger. Sage’s family said they are still in shock and are grateful for the coincidences that helped prevent more severe injuries.
Resort officials said the speed limit on the property is 14 miles per hour, and they are reminding guests to be extra cautious and attentive while driving. The driver of the SUV was taken into custody by Vermont State Police.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance, especially in areas where children are present. It also highlights the need for parents and caregivers to be aware of their surroundings and take necessary precautions to ensure the well-being of their children.
