India Protests Iran Over Seafarer Killing

India has lodged a strong protest with Iran after an Indian seafarer was killed in the Strait of Hormuz. The seafarer was among 46 crew members on board two vessels that were attacked while transiting the shipping lane.

Ten other Indian seafarers were wounded, with two reported to be seriously injured. India is deeply concerned by the attacks and has called for the targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region to cease.

The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the region, with the US having reinstated a blockade on Iranian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has stated that the US has no role in determining the future of the waterway, which handles a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies.
