President Donald Trump stated that the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was drained to make repairs and will be refilled soon. The more than $14 million renovation project has faced problems including massive algae blooms and allegations of vandalism.
Renovation Issues
The president claimed that vandals gashed the pool’s lining, which he described as 300 yards long. However, a CNN crew did not notice any obvious signs of long gashes in the lining. The National Park Service and US Park Police have been contacted for comment on the matter.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said the government could prove the damage was caused by vandals, but did not provide further details. The pool’s renovation has been marred by issues, including a chipping bottom and green-hued water.
