A black labrador named Tokyo was rescued from the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, after falling seriously ill from suspected cannabis consumption. Tokyo’s owner, Christina Bluhme, said the dog became unwell and lost consciousness several hours into a hike up the mountain.
Rescue Efforts
Bluhme initially tried to carry Tokyo down the mountain, but it proved too difficult due to heavy rain and the dog’s weight. A fellow hiker suggested calling emergency services, which dispatched a mountain rescue team to assist. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team volunteers were close by, having just attended another emergency at the summit, and they helped bring Tokyo down the mountain.
Tokyo was taken to a nearby vet, who recognized her symptoms as being caused by neurotoxicity, likely from consuming cannabis. The vet treated Tokyo with an IV infusion and activated charcoal, and she made a full recovery.
