The Ames City Council will discuss potential limitations on data centers and a proposal from LightEdge to build a facility near the airport during its meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Ames City Council Chambers.
Proposal Details
The Des Moines-based company LightEdge has proposed building a data center just west of the airport, with the project planned to be developed over 10 years. Last month, the council heard input from LightEdge and received feedback from the community.
According to Brian Phillips, Ames assistant city manager, the city council will have to decide whether to enter into lease negotiations or pass on the opportunity. The council will also consider taking further action to regulate data centers in the community.
A memo from the Ames City Attorney outlining potential limitations will be presented at the meeting. Public input will not be allowed during the session, but the council has encouraged residents to send comments via email.
