UK police have announced that there is no evidence to suggest a political link in the murder of former British government minister Ann Widdecombe. The 78-year-old was found dead at her home in rural southwest England with serious injuries.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder and are not seeking anyone else at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging the public not to speculate about possible motives.
Widdecombe, a social conservative, served as a junior minister in John Major’s Conservative government in the 1990s. She later joined Nigel Farage’s Reform UK as its immigration and justice spokesperson.
This incident is the third murder of a British lawmaker in the last decade. Labour lawmaker Jo Cox was shot and stabbed in 2016, and Conservative lawmaker David Amess was stabbed to death in 2021.
