A group of over 1,200 Department of Justice (DOJ) alumni, including former officials from Republican and Democratic administrations, have signed a letter opposing the nomination of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche as the permanent head of the DOJ.
Opposition to Blanche’s Nomination
The letter, sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee, expresses concerns about Blanche’s leadership and his decision to fire hundreds of DOJ employees, some of whom were allegedly let go for working on cases that the President didn’t like. The signatories claim that Blanche’s actions have compromised the department’s ability to carry out its vital work, leaving communities less safe and Americans’ rights less protected.
However, the Trump DOJ has pushed back against the letter, stating that it is a partisan effort to discredit Blanche’s nomination. A DOJ spokesperson pointed out that the letter’s signatories include liberal politicians and former Biden administration officials, who have a history of opposing the Trump administration’s policies.
Law enforcement organizations, including the Major Cities Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, have expressed their support for Blanche’s nomination, citing his experience and commitment to public safety.
