A special reunion in West Des Moines brought together former neonatal intensive care unit patients with the MercyOne staff who cared for them.
MercyOne Children’s Hospital Reunion
MercyOne Children’s Hospital William and Josephine Norkaitis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit hosted its annual NICU reunion Saturday morning. Former patients and their families walked into the Valley Community Center and got to reconnect with their favorite NICU staff.
A lot of our patients just by nature are with us for sometimes months on end, said Shawna Armbruster, a NICU nurse manager with MercyOne. While they’re with us, we really form those relationships with the families. It’s not just the babies that are our patients, but the family as well. So the bonds are formed. The reunion is a great opportunity for us to get to reconnect and see how these little ones are doing.
Everyone there for the reunion was able to enjoy lunch, face painting, and take part in hands-on crafts. In addition to celebrating milestones, the reunions gave families and staff the chance to make new memories.
