A fire broke out at the Arkansas Galvanizing Plant in Prairie Grove early Saturday morning, sending one firefighter to the hospital. The fire was discovered by a Prairie Grove police officer during routine patrol on Escue Drive.
A number of neighboring agencies responded and the fire was quickly put out. The firefighter who was hospitalized is expected to be OK, having been treated for possible smoke inhalation and heat-related symptoms.
After the fire was extinguished, the concern shifted to chemicals in the plant. Experts contained all of the chemicals in the facility and helped with air quality testing. The testing showed the air is normal and safe, with continued testing planned throughout the day on Saturday. HAZMAT teams are assisting with cleanup after the fire.
