Denton health officials are warning residents to take precautions after reporting the first case of someone getting sick with West Nile virus this year.
Precautions to Reduce Mosquito Bites
Officials said the illness was linked to an infected mosquito. To help reduce the threat of mosquito bites, residents are being urged to drain standing water and use bug spray.
To protect yourself from mosquito bites, dress in long sleeves and pants when outside, and spray thin clothing with repellent. Make sure your insect repellent contains DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
It is also recommended to avoid being outdoors during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes that commonly carry the West Nile virus are most active. However, other types of mosquitoes that can carry Zika, dengue, and chikungunya are active during the day.
