The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League hosted a special Miracle League baseball series in Cincinnati, bringing together children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. The event drew families from New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Iowa, and Pittsburgh.
A Place to Belong
According to Tyler Bradshaw, executive director of The Nuxhall Foundation, the league provides a place for families to belong and connect with others who share similar experiences. “Events like this show not only do they have a place they belong physically, they have a larger community of people across the country who are living life just like they are,” Bradshaw said.
The series included a skills combine, giving participants a chance to play and connect with each other. Organizers noted the emotional impact on parents, many of whom were told their children would never play sports. Watching their kids defy the odds often brought tears to their eyes.
The event brought together 160 athletes and their families, with the Nuxhall Foundation and Reds legend Sean Casey teaming up to make it happen. Casey’s Clubhouse, an adaptive sports team from Pittsburgh, was one of the groups participating.
