When storms kicked up construction on Apex’s years-long streetscape project, it was town residents who came in to clean up the mess. Pictures and videos show Friday evening’s storms knocking over cones, bricks, and barriers for Apex’s multimillion-dollar streetscape project.
Patrons from nearby restaurants dining along Salem Street during the storm set out to clean up the mess, even amid wind and rain. The streetscape’s protective tarp was uncovered during the storm, with traffic barriers and other debris pushed to the opposite side of the street.
Dozens of people braved the weather to restore the streetscape’s construction zone. “It almost looked like there was like a tornado starting to brew just from the way the wind was blowing. Like all of this everything you see here was on this side of the street,” said Mike Ames, one of the patrons inside Salem Street Pub who went out during the storm to help with the cleanup.
