Trinity star Grayson Willoughby, the 2026 Kentucky Mr. Baseball and Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, is preparing for the Major League Baseball Draft. The first four rounds of the draft are set to take place on Saturday.
Willoughby’s Impressive Season
Willoughby had an impressive season, going 12-0 with a 0.67 earned run average for a Trinity team that finished 41-3 and won a second straight KHSAA Baseball State Championship. He struck out 96 batters in just 62.1 innings.
Trinity head coach Rick Arnold praised Willoughby, saying, “We’ve got two guys currently in the big leagues and several more in minor league ball… He tracks with all of them. As a matter of fact, he would be right there at the top of the list.”
A Decision to Make
Willoughby will have a decision to make after the draft. He can either attend the University of Kentucky, where he has signed to play, or pursue a professional career in baseball. “For me, it’s just kind of where I feel I’m at at that time and whatever kind of gives me the best chance to make it up to the big leagues the fastest,” Willoughby said.
