Mescalero Apache Tribe council president Thora Walsh-Padilla has been impeached by a unanimous vote, she announced in a Facebook post Friday. Walsh-Padilla was previously suspended for 90 days due to an investigation regarding accusations being brought up against her.
According to a post she made back in April, she says the charge was due to “nepotism for hiring someone that is not related” to her. Walsh-Padilla wrote in her Facebook post Friday, “From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say thank you to all that offered your support and shared prayers with me. I understand what you were striving towards.”
She also writes that change needs to come from within and that needs to start with a more worldly and progressive Tribal Council.
