New Mexico’s Epstein Truth Commission, led by State Rep. Andrea Romero, has issued 20 subpoenas to local, state, and federal agencies. While all local and state agencies have responded, two federal agencies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ), have not replied.
Investigation into Epstein’s Activities
The commission is investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s activities, including his connections to New Mexico. The FAA was subpoenaed for information related to flights connected to Epstein, particularly those that landed in Santa Fe or Albuquerque before the construction of an airstrip at Zorro Ranch.
The USDOJ was also subpoenaed, following a 2019 investigation into Epstein’s activities in New Mexico, which was reportedly stopped by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Former New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas stated that he was instructed to stand down on the investigation.
The New Mexico State Records Center and Archives responded to a subpoena by providing 132 documents related to former Gov. Bill Richardson’s relationship with Epstein. Richardson’s estate has denied any wrongdoing.
Next Steps
The commission has also subpoenaed Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase, two banks used by Epstein, with response deadlines set for July 17. The commission plans to release an interim report on July 31.
