U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized eight semi-automatic rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition at the Presidio, Texas, Port of Entry on Thursday. The firearms and ammunition were found in a vehicle headed for Mexico.
The driver, a permanent U.S. resident and Mexican citizen, was taken into custody and faces charges for smuggling goods and trafficking firearms. CBP officers discovered the firearms and ammunition in hidden compartments of the vehicle after inspection technology detected anomalies.
The seizure is a significant example of the efforts of CBP to prevent the smuggling of firearms and ammunition across the border.
