Cincinnati leaders are pushing for solutions to graffiti vandalism, including holding vandals accountable for cleanup. A Northside business owner and city council members are working together to find a solution to the problem, which has persisted year after year, costing business owners time and money.
Proposed Solution
City Council Member Mark Jeffreys is proposing a new approach to address the issue. His plan would stop penalizing responsible property owners who are targeted by vandals and instead require the vandals to clean up the damage they cause. The so-called ‘Clean Walls, Safe Streets’ plan will include an amnesty program for responsible property owners, create a ‘Taggers Restore It’ ordinance requiring community service for vandals, and explore anti-graffiti enforcement options with the Cincinnati Police Department.
Enforcement options could include using mobile cameras and drones to catch often hard to find vandals in the act. The City administration is expected to report back by September.
