Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz stated on Thursday that there were no divisions within Cuba’s leadership, following an interview with Raul Castro’s grandson, who expressed openness to negotiating with the US.
Cuba’s Leadership Unity
Marrero rejected speculation of splits within Cuba’s power structure over how to engage with the US, saying that conversations have been held with US government representatives to seek solutions through dialogue.
Senior Cuban foreign ministry officials have stated that, although channels of communication remain open, no significant progress has been made in the bilateral relationship.
Relations between the two countries flared earlier this week at the United Nations, where Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, said the US fuel embargo and economic sanctions amount to a systematic violation of human rights.
