Dodgers Visit White House

A Los Angeles Times reporter has called the Los Angeles Dodgers “tone deaf” for accepting an invitation to the White House to celebrate their World Series championship. The reporter, Bill Plaschke, claimed that the team’s decision to visit the White House is an “insult to their fans” because President Donald Trump is actively deporting illegal immigrants.

Plaschke’s Criticism

Plaschke argued that the Dodgers’ largely Hispanic fan base would be offended by the team’s decision to visit the White House, given President Trump’s stance on illegal immigration. He also pointed out that other teams, such as the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia Eagles, have refused to visit the White House during President Trump’s presidency.

However, the Dodgers organization has stated that visiting the White House is not an endorsement of President Trump or his policies, but rather a way to show respect for the country and the presidency. The team has also noted that they are not taking a political stance by accepting the invitation.

Response to Criticism

Some have criticized Plaschke’s article, arguing that he is being hypocritical by condemning the Dodgers for visiting the White House while ignoring the fact that other teams and players have endorsed Democratic politicians. They also point out that deporting illegal immigrants is a matter of enforcing the law and is not inherently racist.
