Meta has introduced a new tool that allows users to generate artificial intelligence content using publicly posted Instagram photos. The tool, called Muse Image, was rolled out on Tuesday and enables users to create new AI photos based on photos from public Instagram accounts.
Privacy Concerns
Privacy advocates have expressed concerns over the tool, citing the potential for users to create AI-generated images using another person’s likeness without their consent. Taylor Lorenz, a journalist and author, noted that the tool allows users to create a photo or video using another person’s image without their knowledge or permission.
J.B. Branch, director of AI policy at Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, also expressed concerns over the tool. “The fact that someone you don’t know could take your picture or your image and doctor an AI-generated image of you is just really gross,” Branch said.
Users can opt out of the tool by setting their account to private or changing their account settings. To opt out, users can follow these steps: set their account to private or go to their account settings and select the option to opt out of the AI image generator.
