Spain’s High Court has placed a former top aide to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez under investigation as part of a wide-ranging corruption probe. The move is another blow to Sanchez, who has seen several members of his Socialist Party involved in graft scandals.
Investigation Details
Juan Manuel Serrano, Sanchez’s former chief of staff, is implicated in a suspected plot to destabilize judicial and police investigations affecting the Socialist Party. The focus is on text messages exchanged with Leire Diez, the alleged ringleader.
Serrano did not immediately reply to requests for comment, while Diez has denied any wrongdoing. A Socialist Party spokesperson said the investigation must run its course and the party will cooperate fully.
