Oshkosh, WI, is set to open a new childcare center that will serve two shifts, providing care for children from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Oshkosh Child Development Center, located just north of downtown on Main Street, aims to address the challenge of finding childcare at night.
Meeting the Needs of Working Parents
The center will have a capacity for up to 42 children at any given time, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 12 years old. This will be particularly beneficial for parents who work non-traditional hours, such as those in retail, restaurants, and assisted living facilities.
The childcare center will be attached to the new Corridor housing complex, a 55-unit affordable housing facility with apartments and townhomes. Although it is part of the housing complex, the childcare center will be open to families from the broader community, not just residents of the Corridor.
The center’s operational hours and structure are designed to accommodate the needs of working parents. For children staying later, the center will begin a bedtime routine around 7:30 or 8 p.m., which includes reading a bedtime story, brushing teeth, and then putting the children to sleep for the night.
