The Giving USA 2026 report shows that charitable giving by Americans increased nearly 6% over the prior year to $617 billion. Foundations are an important and growing source of philanthropy for our nation’s nonprofits, with giving by foundations now making up 19% of total giving — a 70% increase over the past decade.
Local Impact
In Springfield, the Hatch Foundation is developing a center for nonprofits, providing collaborative space and resources for up to 13 nonprofits whose work aligns with their mission and philanthropic priorities. The foundation was founded in 2020 by six members of the Springfield community who wanted to give back to the community that supported them for many years.
The Hatch Foundation has granted nearly $8 million, including the lead grant for the Hatch Auditorium at the Library Center and a major gift to the Art Museum expansion. Their new project, NEST, will provide affordable, flexible workspace for nonprofits, as well as a waiting/lounge area, kitchen and communal space, utilities, wi-fi, printing, and cleaning services.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks has also announced plans for a supportive space for the nonprofit sector, with a renovation of their building at 300 S. Jefferson Ave. to include an expanded event center, offices, and collaboration space for emerging nonprofits.
