New Mexico State Fair Hosts Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge

The New Mexico State Fair is hosting the Original Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge, and applications are now open. The contest will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Agriculture Building Main Street (Courtyard) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Contest Details

All New Mexico restaurants with a brick-and-mortar location are eligible to participate. The application fee is $25, and the deadline to apply is June 17, 2026. Participation in the contest will be selected by the State Fair.

On the day of the contest, contestants will be asked to ‘Fire up your grill’ at 11:30 a.m. Fair officials will give introductions and announcements at 11:50 a.m., and contestants will begin grilling at 12 p.m. Exact times for judging will be decided on the day.
