Recent Akron high school graduates are taking different paths after graduation. Ayden Austin, a graduate of Ellet Community Learning Center, is pursuing a career in electrical work through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 306. He believes that electric utilities will always be in high demand, making his trade a stable choice.

College and Trades

Other graduates, such as Princess Ripley, are planning to attend college. Ripley will study criminal justice at the University of Akron and is concerned about finding a job to cover her expenses. Marcus Whatley, a North High School alum, has chosen to join the military, where he will study computer science and business management. He believes that the military will provide him with benefits and open doors for his future.

Chloe Banks, a graduate of Firestone Community Learning Center, will attend Kent State University to study vocal performance. She credits her church choir and vocal pathway with teaching her how to sing with others and read music. Tyree Roper, an Akron Public Schools Online graduate, plans to attend Stark State College and study human resources, while also pursuing his passion for computer programming.

Overcoming Challenges

Arianna Thornton, a graduate of Akron Public Schools’ STEM High School, has already overcome significant challenges. She experienced homelessness during her senior year but was able to navigate this difficult time with the help of her job at Maplewood Senior Living. She plans to study nursing at the University of Akron and work in pediatrics.

These graduates demonstrate the diversity of paths that Akron high school graduates are taking. While some are pursuing traditional college routes, others are choosing trades, entrepreneurship, or the military. Despite the uncertainty of the future, these graduates are confident in their choices and are looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
