The nonprofit Bike 4 Alzheimer’s, which started at Western Kentucky University, has organized the annual ride since 2010. Each summer, participants bike from San Francisco to Virginia Beach to raise awareness and collect donations for Alzheimer’s research.
This year’s team includes 12 cyclists. Their 72-day journey covers more than 3,600 miles, with stops in cities across the country to connect with communities and gather support from individuals and businesses.
On Thursday night, the group stopped at Bearno’s in Jeffersontown. So far, the team has raised $82,000 toward its $150,000 goal.
The cyclists leave for Lexington on Saturday morning, and the journey is scheduled to end July 26.
