A man has been arrested in El Paso County, Colorado, after a violent interaction with law enforcement. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. on July 4 about a man threatening someone with a handgun.
Details of the Incident
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Garrett Duffy, had fled the scene after firing several shots. The victim told deputies that Duffy had likely gone near South Willow Street in Woodland Park. Deputies located Duffy and tried to make contact, but he came outside with a hunting rifle and refused to drop the weapon.
Duffy approached law enforcement while swinging the rifle and later tried to disarm a deputy during a physical struggle. He was eventually placed into custody and taken to a local hospital before being booked into the El Paso County Jail. Duffy has been released on a $10,000 bond and faces charges of menacing with a real or simulated weapon, resisting arrest, and second-degree assault.
