Special Olympics Wyoming will host its annual Summer Sports Classic in Casper on July 31 through Aug. 1, bringing athletes from across the state together for competition in golf, bowling, cycling, bocce, and softball.
Competition Schedule
Competition begins Friday, July 31, with the Unified Sports Golf Tournament at Casper Municipal Golf Course. The tournament pairs Special Olympics Wyoming athletes with Unified partners who do not have intellectual disabilities. The first tee time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
Bowling competition will also take place Friday at El Mark-O Lanes. The morning session begins at 9 a.m., with an afternoon session scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m., following the conclusion of the morning competition.
Events continue Saturday, Aug. 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Bocce and softball competitions will be held at the North Casper Softball Complex, while cycling events will take place at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park along the Cottonwood Shelter loop.
Community Support
Community members are also invited to support local law enforcement officers during the Casper leg of the Wyoming Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wyoming. Officers will carry the Flame of Hope to help raise awareness and critical funds for Special Olympics Wyoming athletes.
The Casper Torch Run will begin at approximately 8:25 a.m. Saturday at the Casper Police Department, 201 N. David St., and conclude around 9 a.m. at the North Casper Softball Complex.
Special Olympics Wyoming is also seeking volunteers to assist throughout the event. Opportunities include scorekeeping, helping with softball skills stations, umpiring, and assisting with awards presentations.
