A new quadrant intersection at State Road 930 and Maplecrest Road in New Haven, Indiana, is now open. Local police are helping drivers adjust to a new traffic pattern that eliminates left turns at the main intersection.
New Traffic Pattern
Under the new configuration, drivers approaching the main intersection from any direction are no longer permitted to make left turns. Instead, they must continue through the main intersection and use connector roads to reach their destination.
For example, drivers traveling eastbound on State Road 930 who want to travel northbound on Maplecrest Road must continue past the main intersection, turn right onto a connector road, and then turn right again onto Maplecrest Road.
New Haven police officers have increased patrols in the area as drivers become familiar with the new roadway design. Officers are currently issuing warnings rather than citations for drivers who make illegal left turns.
The new traffic pattern has received mixed reactions from drivers. Some online comments expressed frustration with the changes, while others are adjusting to the new design.
INDOT officials said the intersection is still not operating at its full capacity because additional construction work remains. The project’s full benefits will become clearer once remaining work is finished.
Police are asking motorists to slow down, follow posted signs, and pay attention while traveling through the construction area.
