A new report from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) reveals that Illinois small business owners are less optimistic than the national average. The Small Business Optimism Index for Illinois was 97.3, 1.2 points below the national average.
Challenges Facing Illinois Small Businesses
According to the report, Illinois small business owners are struggling with high taxes, with 23.2% citing taxes as their single most important problem, compared to 17.3% of small business owners across the country. They are also facing significant deficits in job openings and earnings.
Noah Finley, NFIB Illinois State Director, stated that the data confirms what he hears from small business owners across the state, who are discouraged by Illinois’s tax-and-spend policies and growing regulatory burdens.
