A gas leak in downtown Durham has prompted the evacuation of several businesses near the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Durham Fire Department is investigating the large natural gas leak in front of the park’s main entrance. The Durham Bulls are currently on the road, playing a series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in Florida.
According to the fire department’s division chief, local businesses were evacuated, and streets near the ballpark have been shut down. Firefighters are waiting for Engbridge Gas to arrive and for Duke Energy to restore power to the area. The cause of the gas leak and the expected time of repair are currently unknown.
