The Overland Park City Council has approved a townhome project, Stratford Square, which will feature 29 rental townhome units on a two-acre property at the corner of 71st Street and Metcalf.
Project Details
The project, developed by KOENIG Building, will include a one-car garage and a two-bedroom layout for each unit. The development will also feature an outdoor green space, benches, and bike racks, as well as a perimeter fence to screen it from nearby single-family homes.
Despite concerns from neighbors about the project’s density and potential impact on property values, the city council voted unanimously to approve the rezoning for the project. Councilmembers emphasized the need for more diverse housing options in the city, particularly for young families and first-time homebuyers.
Community Reaction
Some neighbors expressed concerns about the project, citing its potential impact on the character of the established neighborhood. However, councilmembers noted that the project aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan, Framework OP, which identifies the area for Traditional Neighborhood development, including townhomes.
