Mississippians are encouraged to shop local during the state’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday, which takes place from Friday, July 10, through Sunday, July 12. During this time, sales tax will not be collected on eligible clothing, footwear, and school supplies when the sales price of a single item is less than $100.
Supporting Local Families and Businesses
NFIB State Director Leah Long says the tax holiday can help families and small businesses. It gives parents a chance to save on clothes, shoes, and school supplies, and it helps local merchants during one of their busiest times of the year. Long also highlights the important role small businesses play in communities across the state.
When families shop at locally owned businesses, they’re supporting local jobs, strengthening their communities, and helping Main Street businesses succeed, according to Long.
