The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is being drained for the second time in three months. According to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the pool is being drained to repair vandalism and clean up fireworks debris.
Renovation Efforts
The Trump administration has been working to fix the pool, which has been plagued by problems such as algae blooms and a chipping bottom. The administration has said that vandals caused damage to the pool, but has not provided evidence to support this claim.
The same contractor, Virginia-based Atlantic Industrial Coatings, will be used for this next round of repairs. The company previously landed a no-bid contract worth more than $14 million for their part of the work.
Burgum has suggested that the repairs could happen with the pool only being partially drained. He has also denied that President Trump’s motorcade driving through the pool mid-renovation in May did any damage to the site.
