New campaign finance reports reveal that Democrat Deb Haaland has significantly outpaced Republican Gregg Hull in fundraising for the New Mexico governor’s race. Haaland raised roughly $1.1 million, while Hull brought in more than $390,000.

Haaland also holds a significant advantage in cash on hand, with nearly $2.3 million, including funds carried over from the primary. Hull, by comparison, has nearly $298,000 available.

KOAT political expert Brian Sanderoff noted that having a big war chest is no guarantee of victory, but it helps in getting the message out to voters. Sanderoff explained that Haaland was successful in increasing her campaign funds during the primary race, raising more than $12 million, much of it from small donors nationwide.

Hull addressed the fundraising gap, stating that his campaign had previously overcome similar gaps and won handily. The Haaland campaign released a statement, saying she is grateful for the grassroots support from across the state and enters the final four months of the general election in a commanding position.
