Cedar Rapids has something to celebrate this summer: a local effort to put books in the hands of children has now delivered half a million books to kids in the community since it began in 2018, according to KWWL.
That’s 500,000 books over roughly eight years — a testament to the sustained commitment of volunteers, donors, and organizers who have worked to make sure young readers across Cedar Rapids have access to books of their own.
The milestone is a reminder of how steady, community-driven work adds up over time. What started in 2018 has grown into one of the city’s most meaningful literacy efforts, touching the lives of countless children and families throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
The good news for readers didn’t stop there. The Cedar Rapids Public Library also recently welcomed the Iowa Women’s Jazz Orchestra Sextet for a live performance, according to The Gazette — another example of the library serving as a vibrant community gathering place for arts and culture alongside its mission of lifelong learning.
Together, these stories paint a picture of a city that invests in its youngest residents and keeps its public spaces alive with opportunity.
