Bruce Springsteen is once again defending his outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump, arguing that confronting America’s flaws is, in his view, the highest form of patriotism.
Critical Patriotism
According to Springsteen, true patriotism is not about overlooking problems but addressing them directly in hopes of creating a stronger nation. “I believe in critical patriotism,” Springsteen said. “I believe that’s the definition of a patriot, you know, that you love your country so much that you are willing to look at it clearly, recognize its faults, encourage it to be a better place, and believe that you carry in your heart the country that is waiting.”
Springsteen’s comments come after months of political messaging from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who has become one of the entertainment world’s most visible critics of President Trump.
