Bruce Springsteen, a longtime critic of President Donald Trump, recently shared his definition of true patriotism during his PBS special, “Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song.” Springsteen stated, “I believe in critical patriotism… that you love your country so much that you are willing to look at it clearly, recognize its faults, encourage it to be a better place, and believe that you carry in your heart the country that is waiting.”
Trump’s Response
In response, President Trump called Springsteen a “bad, and very boring singer” who has “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Trump also encouraged his supporters to boycott Springsteen’s concerts, stating they are “overpriced” and that “America is back!!!”
Springsteen has been an outspoken critic of Trump, and the two have been engaged in a public feud for several years. In 2019, Springsteen laughed at Trump’s attempts to mock him on the campaign trail, saying it was “frightening” to see the country’s affairs being handled by someone who doesn’t understand what it means to be an American.
Springsteen has also been involved in various political activities, including releasing an anti-ICE protest song and speaking out against political violence. During a recent concert, he offered a “prayer” for Trump and condemned political violence, saying that while people can disagree and criticize those in power, there is no place for violence in the United States.
