Construction has started on Green Township’s first single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Hutchinson and Ebenezer near Oak Hills High School.
Improving Safety and Traffic Flow
The $2.3 million project aims to improve safety and traffic flow at the busy intersection. The area will be closed for the next 90 days as contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation build out the roundabout.
Traffic on Ebenezer will be detoured via Bridgetown Road, Taylor Rybolt, and Wesselman Roads. Traffic from Hutchinson Road will be detoured to Filview Circle, Harrison Road, Race Road Bridgetown and Ebenezer Road.
The project will also include stormwater drainage improvements and new sidewalks. Transportation officials say the project will bring safety improvements to the busy intersection by slowing speeds, reducing conflict points, and allowing continuous traffic flow.
Neighbors say they’re expecting a traffic headache over the next several months. Anthony Day lives along Hutchinson near the construction and says the roundabout is needed. “Traffic is pretty bad,” Day said. “I try to keep my kids in the backyard as possible. I think time will tell.”
James Dunigan, 84, has lived near the intersection along Hutchinson since 1976. He voiced concerns about the project to the Green Township Trustees. “It’s going to be the traffic and everything we’re going to have over here,” Dunigan said. “I won’t be able to get out of my driveway to go to the grocery or anywhere else.”
