Trump Criticizes Italian Pm

US President Donald Trump has again criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, posting a picture of her on social media with a caption that sparked controversy. The Italian prime minister has yet to respond to the post, which comes ahead of a NATO summit in Turkey.

The tension between Trump and Meloni began last month when the US president told an Italian TV channel that Meloni had “begged” him to take a photo with her at a G7 summit in France. Meloni denied the claim, accusing Trump of fabricating the story.

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto stressed the importance of maintaining good transatlantic relations, saying that people come and go, but relationships remain. Opposition politicians, however, were more critical of Trump, with one calling him a “despicable, cheap bully”.
