Kahwa Coffee Roasting Company has opened a new location in Palm Harbor, at 32700 US Hwy 19 N. The store, which is the first franchise location for the company, is owned by Chris and Pita Deneault.
Franchising and Growth
For Kahwa Coffee Roasting Company co-founder Raphael Perrier, franchising is a key aspect of the company’s future growth. The Deneaults were the first to sign a franchise agreement with Kahwa Coffee, back in October 2022. Chris Deneault has years of experience in customer service, having previously worked with Chick-fil-A.
The new store was a long time in the making, with the Deneaults signing a lease for the site in June 2024. However, their efforts were delayed by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and they had to complete an extensive bathroom remodeling project after an inspection. Despite the challenges, the Deneaults were determined to open their store, which they finally did last month.
Perrier launched Kahwa Coffee Roasting Company with his wife Sarah in 2006, and it has since become one of the largest independent coffee roasters in Florida. The company has over 15 locations around the country and works with a variety of wholesale partners, including hotels, grocery stores, and restaurants.
Perrier was initially hesitant about franchising, but after seeing friends succeed with the model, he reconsidered. The company has introduced a franchising option, with five locations opening so far. Perrier explained that finding real estate for franchisees has been a hurdle, and there is a lot of competition in the region.
As part of the vetting process, the Perrier family meets with candidates to discuss their goals and determine whether they are the right fit for the company. Perrier emphasized that it’s all about the passion for the brand and the willingness to understand what it takes to succeed with a franchise.
