Wings soar past Tempo 89-76 behind Bueckers’ dominant performance

The Dallas Wings handed the Toronto Tempo a 89-76 defeat on Sunday at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, with Paige Bueckers orchestrating the visiting offence from start to finish in a commanding road victory.

Bueckers was the clear catalyst for Dallas, finishing as the game’s top scorer with 22 points while also distributing 7 assists — a dual contribution that kept the Tempo defence consistently off-balance. Her ability to both create and convert proved to be the difference-maker in what became a comfortable margin for the Wings down the stretch.

On the boards, Jessica Shepard was a force that Toronto simply could not contain. The Dallas big hauled in 15 rebounds, a performance that helped fuel the Wings’ dominant rebounding effort. Dallas finished the contest with 42 total rebounds, including a staggering 16 on the offensive glass — second-chance opportunities that repeatedly extended possessions and put additional pressure on a Tempo squad already struggling to keep pace.

For Toronto, Marina Mabrey carried the offensive load, posting a team-high 19 points to go along with 5 assists. Her playmaking kept the Tempo competitive in stretches, but she lacked the supporting cast needed to mount a sustained challenge against a well-rounded Dallas unit. Maria Conde provided some interior presence for the home side, pulling down 10 rebounds to lead Toronto on the glass, though it was far from enough to offset Shepard’s dominance at that end of the floor.

Dallas shot 44 percent from the field overall, connecting on 33 of 75 attempts, and found consistent success from beyond the arc, knocking down 10 of 28 three-point tries for a 36 percent clip. Perhaps most telling was the Wings’ efficiency at the free-throw line — Dallas converted 13 of 14 attempts for a 93 percent mark, capitalizing on nearly every opportunity when the Tempo sent them to the stripe.

The Wings also showed discipline and defensive intensity throughout, recording 7 steals and 6 blocks while committing just 11 turnovers. Their 16 assists on 33 made field goals reflected a team playing cohesive, connected basketball — a sharp contrast to a Toronto side that was unable to generate the kind of consistent ball movement needed to keep up.

The 13-point final margin tells a story of Dallas controlling the game’s key categories: rebounding, ball security, and efficiency from the line. The Wings’ 16 offensive rebounds alone speak to a physical advantage they pressed relentlessly throughout the evening, turning missed shots into additional scoring chances that slowly but surely put the game out of reach for the home side.

The loss is a setback for the Tempo, who were unable to leverage home-court advantage at Coca-Cola Coliseum. Despite Mabrey’s best efforts, Toronto could not generate enough secondary scoring to stay within striking distance as Dallas pulled away. The Wings, meanwhile, leave Toronto with a convincing road win that underscores their potential as a legitimate contender, powered by Bueckers’ growing command of the game and a roster that can hurt opponents in multiple ways on any given night.
