A Fort Worth family recently celebrated America’s 250th birthday at the city’s Fourth of July celebration. For one-year-old Brooks Sgroi, it was his first experience with fireworks and patriotic festivities.
A Family’s First Fourth
Brooks, who turns one on July 10, was mesmerized by the fireworks display at Panther Island Pavilion. His parents, including education reporter Matthew Sgroi, were happy to share this experience with their young son.
As they watched the fireworks, they were surrounded by other families and individuals celebrating the nation’s birthday. The event brought the community together, with strangers becoming neighbors for a few minutes as they enjoyed the show.
Nearby, another family, the Ardis family, was celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. They shared their own experiences of celebrating the Fourth of July over the years, including a trip to the Northeast in 1976 for the country’s bicentennial.
The Ardis family’s advice to Matthew Sgroi was to take pictures and write down memories of the day, so Brooks can understand and share them when he is older.
