NEDO Soccer Club, a nonprofit youth sports organization in Lexington, Kentucky, is chasing a national championship. The club has qualified for the U.S. Soccer Championship in Utah later this month.
Community Support Needed
The team is actively raising funds and counting on community support to make the trip possible. More than half of the players on the team are on scholarship, making NEDO a unique and inclusive club in the area.
Founder Luca Leonardi is impressed with the team’s success, saying, “Only after 3 years to be at the top of like national teams, and you know we have again, we are not only affordable, but we are offering a very high level of competitive soccer.”
Parents and players alike praise the club’s sense of community, with one player saying, “First ever time I joined NEDO, it was a miracle to me, and at that time I didn’t have a club to play in it, and I found NEDO, and it’s really cool, really fun to play.”
The team’s trip to Utah could open doors for these young players, with scouting opportunities and potential recognition for their skills. However, the cost of attending the championship is high, and the club is relying on community support to make it happen.
